my aperturic annual – 06.10.10

Today, I came home from a long, long day at work.  It was a great day, but it was long.  And what better way to relax after a long day at work than to lay out on a deck?  Yeah…a deck.

(For those of you unaware, I have not had a deck until today.  Thus, its brilliance.)

There I was, lying on my back, enjoying the breeze, watching the amber light of sunset break through the leaves of the tree above when I realized, “This is my shot for the day!”  I scampered like a bunny to my basement to retrieve my handy camera bag, knowing the beauty of that light would soon dissipate.  I returned to my position and pulled out a lens.  And then…the unthinkable happened: the humidity from this stupid summer heat fogged over the lens, as well as the innards of my camera body.  Boooooooooooo.

As I waited for my camera and lens to adjust to its surroundings, the light changed and my magical moment was lost.  Sad.  I did, however, manage to enjoy this view for a minute as I sat up before heading inside.  This view, mind you, will not be available tomorrow when the railing and steps are built.  So…maybe this moment was, in fact, my shot for the day.

I love knowing this deck will provide the perfect spot to unwind, to entertain, to grill, to grow herbs…and I love knowing that it makes my home feel even more like the home I have dreamed of making it.

Life is sweet.  Especially when barefoot.
